Fire Safety & Security Services in Ascot

Fire alarm installation, fire risk assessments and CCTV for Ascot High Street businesses, independent boarding schools, care homes and event venues, across Ascot, Sunninghill, North Ascot and South Ascot.

The parish of Sunninghill and Ascot has around 13,000 residents and 5,000 households, according to its Parish Plan for 2025 to 2029. Its commercial life is shaped by a High Street that trades on one side only, a racecourse with 26 racing days a year and a cluster of boarding schools.

IDS Global has traded since 2011 from one office at 27-37 Station Road, Hayes, and is a member of the IFSM and the FPA. From Hayes, take the A312 Parkway to the A30, then the A329, which runs through Ascot.

Businesses and buildings in Ascot

The Borough Local Plan names Ascot and Sunningdale as the Royal Borough's two district centres, with Sunninghill a local centre. It describes Ascot as serving surrounding homes with a range of shops and services while drawing visitors to the racecourse. The Neighbourhood Plan adds that Green Belt land leaves the High Street trading on one side only, between Station Hill and Hermitage Parade, and records pressure on independent retailers from high rents and business rates.

The edges of the parish have changed too. The Parish Plan records a rebuilt Heatherwood Hospital in operation, houses going up on the old hospital site and new homes on the former Sunninghill gasworks site.

Fire Alarm Installation in Ascot

Get Information about Schools lists LVS Ascot, Heathfield, St George's and St Mary's Ascot as boarding schools. The Care Quality Commission lists Ascot Grange Care Home, Lynwood Care Centre and Larkland House as registered for nursing or personal care. Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) still attends automatic alarms at schools and at places where anyone sleeps.

We design BS 5839 systems for premises like these, with zoning and panel information that night staff can read, and detectors matched to kitchens and sleeping areas.

Fire Risk Assessments by IDS Global

Fire Risk Assessments in Ascot

Since 20 September 2024 RBFRS has not sent an engine automatically to alarm signals from shops, offices and warehouses. Its advice to occupiers includes updating the fire risk assessment, logging false alarms and warning the alarm receiving centre before any test.

Our assessments record who checks an alarm, who calls 999 and how staff clear the building. Under Neighbourhood Plan policy SS1, new High Street frontage is to be ground-floor retail or cafes with offices or homes above, a mixed-use layout where escape routes between floors need careful assessment.

CCTV Installation in Ascot

Police.uk records for August 2025 to July 2026 show 466 crimes within a mile of central Ascot, including 35 vehicle crimes and 20 shoplifting offences. June 2026, the month of Royal Ascot, recorded 91, against between 25 and 44 in each of the other months.

We cover entrances, tills, stock rooms, car parks and loading areas with cameras suited to the lighting and distances on site, with recording that staff can export.

Ascot Racecourse, Royal Ascot and Martyn's Law

Ascot Racecourse covers 179 acres leased from the Crown Estate, and its grandstand accommodates 80,000 people sitting and standing. Royal Ascot ran from 16 to 20 June 2026, and the racecourse website lists the 2027 meeting as 15 to 19 June.

The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, known as Martyn's Law, received Royal Assent on 3 April 2025. ProtectUK says requirements begin at least 24 months after that date and gives no commencement date. Premises where 200 or more people may be present fall in the standard tier, and those with 800 or more must take further steps such as CCTV, bag search policies or vehicle checks where appropriate.

Ascot Centre, the High Street and the Neighbourhood Plan

The Ascot, Sunninghill and Sunningdale Neighbourhood Plan was adopted on 29 April 2014 and covers 2011 to 2026. Policy SS1 for the Ascot Centre asks for a village square on or beside the High Street, a community centre, small retail or employment units of around 50 square metres, and phasing so that building work does not harm High Street trade.

RBWM adopted the Ascot Placemaking Supplementary Planning Document on 22 July 2025, after consultation from 22 November 2024 to 19 January 2025. It is a material consideration in planning decisions.

Boarding schools, care homes and Ascot fire station

Get Information about Schools shows LVS Ascot with 730 pupils aged 4 to 19, St Mary's Ascot with 401 girls aged 11 to 18, St George's with 208 girls aged 11 to 19 and Heathfield with 157 pupils aged 10 to 19, all as boarding schools. LVS Ascot and Heathfield are listed under Bracknell Forest, the other two under the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. Ascot Grange Care Home on Bagshot Road, Lynwood Care Centre on Rise Road and Larkland House on London Road are registered for nursing or personal care.

Ascot fire station stands just off the High Street on Station Hill, a two-bay building from the early 1980s with a training tower at the rear, and firefighters have worked from it full-time since April 2015. RBFRS's building list keeps schools, care homes and hotels in the category it still attends, while shops, offices, warehouses, cinemas and sports grounds are among those it no longer attends automatically.

Recorded crime within a mile of central Ascot

We counted street-level crimes on police.uk within a one mile radius of central Ascot for August 2025 to July 2026. Police.uk anonymises locations, so the figures are approximate. The count was 466 crimes: 188 violence and sexual offences, 47 other thefts, 47 public order offences, 35 vehicle crimes, 20 shoplifting offences and 14 burglaries. Monthly totals ran from 25 to 44, except June 2026 at 91, which also held four of the year's five thefts from the person.

Frequently asked questions

Does Martyn's Law apply to a hotel or function room near Ascot Racecourse?

It depends on capacity. ProtectUK says the standard tier covers public premises where 200 or more people may be present, and the enhanced tier covers premises and events with 800 or more. The Act received Royal Assent on 3 April 2025, and ProtectUK says requirements begin at least 24 months after that, without giving a commencement date.

Will the fire service attend an automatic alarm at my Ascot High Street shop?

Not automatically. From 20 September 2024 RBFRS stopped sending an engine to alarm notifications at shops, offices and warehouses, though it still responds to 999 calls and confirmed fires. It recommends logging false alarms and telling your alarm receiving centre before testing. We write those steps into your fire risk assessment.

Do Ascot boarding schools and care homes still get an engine when the alarm sounds?

RBFRS says it continues to attend automatic alarms at schools and at buildings where anyone sleeps, including care homes and hotels. It also says 99% of the automatic alarm calls it receives are false. We choose zoning and detectors for these premises to keep false alarms down.

Which council covers a school or business on London Road in Ascot?

It depends on the address. Get Information about Schools lists LVS Ascot and Heathfield School, both on London Road, under Bracknell Forest, while St George's and St Mary's are listed under the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. We check the local authority for each site before advising on planning or building control matters.

Does the Ascot Neighbourhood Plan affect work on the High Street?

Planning applications in Ascot are judged against the Neighbourhood Plan, adopted on 29 April 2014 for 2011 to 2026, and since 22 July 2025 the Ascot Placemaking document has been a material consideration. A refresh of the plan began in 2023. For alarm or CCTV work, we suggest checking with RBWM's planning team whenever equipment goes on an exterior.
