Fire Safety & Security Services in Virginia Water & Sunningdale

Automatic gates, intruder alarms, CCTV and fire alarms for private estates, care homes, clubs and village-centre businesses across Virginia Water, Wentworth and Sunningdale.

Virginia Water lies in Surrey under Runnymede Borough Council, while Sunningdale is in Berkshire under the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, so two councils, two fire services and two police forces are involved.

IDS Global has traded since 2011 from one office at 27-37 Station Road, Hayes, and is a member of the IFSM and the FPA. From Hayes, the A312 Parkway meets the A30 at Hatton Cross, and the A30 runs west past M25 junction 13 and Egham to Virginia Water and Sunningdale.

Businesses and buildings in Virginia Water & Sunningdale

Runnymede's Local Plan, adopted on 16 July 2020, ranks Virginia Water as one of the borough's four local centres and one of its two largest, with three shopping parades, a railway station and limited office space. The Neighbourhood Forum's plan counts 20 two-storey units on Station Approach, eight of them 1930s Tudor-style timber-framed buildings, and 13 units on Station Parade with flats above. Behind Hanover House, a 2018 office conversion with shops and apartments, Augustus House is a gated block of 66 apartments for residents over 70.

The 2021 census shows detached homes of four or more bedrooms make up half of the Wentworth Estate and over 90% of its western section, known as The Island, where the Wentworth Club and three championship courses sit among plots of 1 to 12 acres. Sunningdale Golf Club was founded in 1900.

Automatic Gates in Virginia Water and Wentworth

On the Wentworth Estate, the Roads Committee's guidance generally allows electronic gates and piers set well back into the plot, with gates up to 3.5 m high and piers, including capping or lantern, up to 3.0 m.

We draw up the gate, pier, operator and intercom layout against those limits first, so the drawing sent for consent already fits.

Intruder Alarms by IDS Global

Intruder Alarm Installation in Virginia Water and Sunningdale

Police.uk data for August 2025 to July 2026 shows about 24 burglaries inside the Surrey Police Virginia Water neighbourhood and about 36 in the Thames Valley Police Ascot neighbourhood, which includes Sunningdale Park.

On plots of one to twelve acres a house can sit well back from the road, so the approach and the grounds matter as much as the doors. We design zones around the whole plot, not just the front door, and link the alarm to monitoring so a signal reaches someone when the house is empty.

CCTV Systems by IDS Global

CCTV Installation in Virginia Water and Sunningdale

Wentworth Estate guidance says security cameras should capture areas within the property only, not a neighbour, the Estate verge or the road, and that entrance cameras should be restricted to the bellmouth.

We choose lenses, angles and privacy masking to stay within those limits.

The area has several premises where people sleep. Merlewood on Hollow Lane is a nursing home for adults over 65, Dormy House on Ridgemount Road in Sunningdale provides nursing and dementia care, and Audley Sunningdale Park offers care and support on site within its retirement village.

We design BS 5839 systems with zoning and panel information that staff can read at night, and plan detectors and cable routes carefully in historic buildings such as the Grade II listed Northcote House.

The Wentworth Estate and its Roads Committee

The Wentworth Estate Act 1964 made the estate the first in the UK protected by an Act of Parliament, and set up the Roads Committee to maintain the common areas and monitor development under the estate covenants.

Under the Neighbourhood Plan, all building works and alterations need the Committee's consent, even where planning rules would treat them as permitted development. Runnymede's Design Code points to the same guidelines for electronic gates and open boundary fencing up to 2 m. We ask early which consents a gate or camera post needs.

Virginia Park, St Ann's Park and care premises

Virginia Park occupies the former Holloway Sanatorium, built in 1885 and closed in 1980. After conversion in 2000 it holds 23 residences in the main building and 190 new homes in the grounds. The main building is Grade I listed, the chapel Grade II*, and the estate is gated. St Ann's Park is also gated, with a management committee overseeing roads and house alterations.

Runnymede's plan also names Merlewood Care Home as locally listed and requires its setting and current use to be maintained within the Virginia Water North housing allocation. Fire alarm work in buildings like these needs a survey before any fixing is agreed.

Sunningdale Park, the conservation area and the village centre

Sunningdale Park is a 32 hectare Green Belt site. The Civil Service College ran there from 1970 to 2012, and Northcote House is Grade II listed. Boyer Planning records full permission in November 2019 for 168 new dwellings, a 103-unit care community and 16.97 hectares of open parkland. The estate says only that parkland is open to the public.

RBWM lists Sunningdale among its 27 conservation areas, with a village statement dated January 1995. The Ascot, Sunninghill and Sunningdale Neighbourhood Plan, adopted on 29 April 2014, backs small retail units of 50 to 200 square metres at the Broomhall Centre, and says large units over 500 square metres will be refused.

Crime figures and fire cover on both sides of the line

Counting police.uk street-level crimes inside each neighbourhood boundary for August 2025 to July 2026, the Surrey Police Virginia Water neighbourhood recorded about 358 crimes, including 29 other thefts, 24 burglaries, 18 vehicle crimes and 16 shoplifting offences. Thames Valley Police's Ascot neighbourhood recorded about 855, including 61 vehicle crimes, 38 shoplifting offences and 36 burglaries. It covers more than Sunningdale, and police.uk anonymises locations, so all figures are approximate.

The two fire services handle alarms differently. Surrey says that at any hour it responds to alarms at business premises only when a fire is confirmed. Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue has not sent engines automatically to shops, offices, leisure centres, sports grounds, libraries or health centres since 20 September 2024, but still attends places where people sleep. Its Ascot station has been wholetime since April 2015.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Wentworth Estate Roads Committee approval as well as planning permission for electric gates?

Yes. The Neighbourhood Plan says all building works and alterations on the estate need the Committee's consent, even when they would be permitted development. Its guidance generally allows electronic gates set well back, up to 3.5 m high with piers up to 3.0 m. We check the dimensions before you submit.

Can I point a camera at the entrance to my Wentworth Estate property?

The Roads Committee's guidance says cameras should capture only areas within the property, not neighbours, the Estate verge or the road, and entrance cameras should be restricted to the bellmouth. We set the angle, zone masking and recording to that brief, and advise you to confirm the position with the Committee.

Will the fire service attend an alarm at my shop in Virginia Water or Sunningdale?

It depends on the side of the boundary. Surrey responds to business alarms only when a fire is confirmed. Royal Berkshire stopped automatic attendance at shops and offices on 20 September 2024. In both cases your procedure should say who checks the alarm and who calls 999, with monitoring holding current key holder details.

Can you work on the Grade I listed building at Virginia Park?

We can survey it. The main building is Grade I, its chapel Grade II*, and the Virginia Park Estate Residents Association manages the historic property. We would keep fixings minimal, use existing routes for cable where possible, and advise you to speak to Runnymede Borough Council and the association before anything is agreed.
