Fire Safety & Security Services in Stanmore

Fire alarm installation, CCTV, intruder alarms and fire risk assessments for shops on The Broadway, industrial units off Honeypot Lane and managed blocks around Canons Park in HA7.

Stanmore puts a Jubilee line district centre, the largest industrial estate on Harrow Council's books and a run of protected streets on Stanmore Hill within a short distance of each other, so the right fire and security measures change from one road to the next.

IDS Global was established in 2011, holds IFSM and FPA membership, and works from its head office in Hayes, reaching Stanmore by the A312 to Harrow and then the A410 Uxbridge Road into Stanmore Broadway.

Businesses and buildings in Stanmore

Harrow Council's investment profile for 2024-25 describes Stanmore District Centre as running along The Broadway and Church Road, with about 93 shopfronts and roughly 16,180 square metres of floorspace. Just over half the units are A1 retail, and the mix includes 11 restaurants, nine hair and beauty businesses, three supermarkets, estate agents and banks. Stanmore station, the northern end of the Jubilee line, sits about half a mile east.

Further east, the council's March 2026 list gives Honeypot Lane Industrial Estate an area of 21.2 acres, the largest estate on that list. Occupiers along Garland Road and Parr Road include a bus operator, a Royal Mail unit, self storage, wholesalers, several caterers and food producers, motor trade workshops and a community centre. Beside Canons Park station, St Edward's Stanmore Place combines apartments, houses, office units and a multi-storey car park served by a community heating network. To the north, the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital occupies Brockley Hill, and the Grade II* listed Bentley Priory now houses a museum with flats above.

Fire Alarm Installation in Stanmore

Harrow Council's list of occupiers on the Honeypot Lane and Dalston Gardens estates includes caterers and food producers, vehicle repair workshops, a timber merchant and packaging suppliers alongside offices and a community centre. Each of those uses calls for a different detection approach: heat detection where cooking or vehicle work could trip smoke heads, and smoke detection in stores and offices.

We design and install BS 5839 Part 1 fire alarm systems for industrial and retail premises, and Part 6 systems for flats above shops, with zoning laid out so that a responding crew can find the fire quickly on a multi-unit site.

Fire Risk Assessments by IDS Global

Fire Risk Assessments in Stanmore

The London Fire Brigade believes an April 2026 fire that damaged half the roof of a hospital building on Brockley Hill was caused by hot works on the roof. Roofing, welding and cutting work of this kind should be covered by the premises fire risk assessment and a hot work permit, with a fire watch after the work stops.

We carry out fire risk assessments for shops and restaurants on The Broadway, industrial units, offices, and the common parts of residential blocks, including arrangements for contractors and hot works where refurbishment is planned.

CCTV Installation in Stanmore

In the Stanmore police neighbourhood, which contains the district centre, police.uk recorded about 106 vehicle crimes over the 12 months to July 2026, more than either burglary or shoplifting.

We install commercial CCTV covering tills, entrances, loading areas and parking, with recorders and retention periods set so that footage can be exported cleanly for the Metropolitan Police. On Stanmore Hill, we plan camera positions with the conservation guidance in mind.

Intruder Alarms by IDS Global

Intruder Alarm Installation in Stanmore

Police.uk data puts burglary counts in the Stanmore and Canons neighbourhoods at a similar level over the same year, even though Canons recorded roughly half as many crimes in total. For industrial units, offices and shops left empty overnight, a graded alarm with remote signalling gives earlier warning than a local bell.

We install and maintain intruder alarms to the grade your insurer asks for, with monitored signalling where a keyholder response is needed.

Stanmore Hill, Old Church Lane and Canons Park conservation areas

Harrow Council's 2013 planning document covers six conservation areas in Stanmore and Edgware, totalling just under 116 hectares. Canons Park is the largest at 63 hectares and includes the listed mansion and Grade II listed parkland of the original estate. Stanmore Hill, designated in 1975, has a group of historic shopfronts at 83 to 113 Stanmore Hill, a Grade II* listed house at number 73 and small listed buildings at 111 to 115. Stanmore Hill, Old Church Lane, Canons Park Estate, Little Common and Kerry Avenue all have Article 4 directions. The appraisal says listed building consent is needed for internal or external alterations that affect special character, and it discourages internally illuminated signs, so alarm sounders, cameras and cable runs should be agreed before work starts.

Two 2026 fires in Stanmore

Stanmore fire station sits at 650 Honeypot Lane, one of two London Fire Brigade stations in Harrow. On 8 April 2026, six engines and around 40 firefighters attended a mixed-use hospital building on Brockley Hill where half the roof was damaged; the Brigade believes hot works on the roof caused it. On 17 August 2026, eight engines and around 60 firefighters, including Hertfordshire crews, attended a detached house on London Road where the roof and most of the first floor were destroyed. The Brigade reported that smoke alarms were fitted but did not activate, and the cause was still under investigation.

Recorded crime in the Stanmore and Canons neighbourhoods

We queried police.uk street-level data for August 2025 to July 2026 using the Metropolitan Police neighbourhood boundaries, so the figures are approximate. The Stanmore neighbourhood, which contains the district centre, recorded about 1,096 crimes, including around 106 vehicle crimes, 68 burglaries, 60 shoplifting offences and 24 robberies. The Canons neighbourhood recorded about 568 crimes, including roughly 71 burglaries and 67 vehicle crimes. Anti-social behaviour made up 260 and 159 reports respectively.

Frequently asked questions

Can I fit CCTV or an alarm box to a shop on Stanmore Hill?

Possibly, but check first. The Stanmore Hill conservation area has an Article 4 direction and several listed buildings, including 111 to 115 Stanmore Hill, where listed building consent is needed for alterations that affect special character. The council's appraisal asks for simple, unobtrusive shopfront lighting and says satellite dishes will not normally be acceptable on front elevations. We can propose discreet camera and sounder positions, and route cabling internally, so the scheme can be put to the council before installation.

Our unit on the Honeypot Lane estate shares a wall with a caterer. What should our fire risk assessment cover?

It should consider how fire in a neighbouring unit could reach yours through a roof void, shared wall or common yard, as well as your own ignition sources and stock. The assessment should also check whether your alarm can be heard across the site and whether escape routes stay clear of loading areas. Where units share a landlord, compartmentation between them is worth confirming with the managing agent.

How should a Stanmore business control roofing or welding work?

The London Fire Brigade believes that fire started from hot works on a roof. Any business commissioning roofing, welding or grinding work should require a hot work permit, remove or protect combustible material nearby, keep suitable extinguishers at hand, and keep a fire watch after the work finishes. Your fire risk assessment should record who issues permits and how contractors are briefed before they start.

Do managed blocks near Canons Park need their alarms serviced?

Yes. Blocks such as those at Stanmore Place have shared plant, including the community heating plant rooms, alongside common corridors and car parking, so common-area detection, emergency lighting and any door entry or access control should be serviced on a regular schedule. We maintain fire alarm and security systems for managing agents and keep the logbook and certificates in order for the responsible person.
