Fire Safety & Security Services in West End

CCTV, access control, fire alarms and fire risk assessments for retailers, theatres, bars, hotels, galleries and offices across the W1 West End, from Oxford Street to Mayfair, Soho and Fitzrovia.

Our engineers reach W1 from Hayes along the A40, joining the elevated Westway that carries the road into Paddington and the Inner Ring Road. IDS Global was founded in 2011, is based at 27-37 Station Road, Hayes, and holds IFSM and FPA membership.

Businesses and buildings in West End

The West End is the largest central business district in the UK and one of the most expensive places in the world to rent commercial space. Oxford Street, Regent Street and Bond Street carry the flagship retail. Mayfair, between Oxford Street, Regent Street, Piccadilly and Park Lane, mixes corporate offices with London's densest cluster of luxury hotels, including Claridge's, The Dorchester and The Ritz, along with Savile Row tailors and the Christie's and Sotheby's salerooms. Much of Mayfair sits within the Grosvenor estate, with some freeholds held by the Crown Estate.

Soho, bounded by Oxford Street, Regent Street, Shaftesbury Avenue and Charing Cross Road, is a working district of film post-production, media offices, restaurants, bars and clubs, with Chinatown centred on Gerrard Street. Soho Estates, based on Wardour Street, is a major landlord with holdings concentrated in Soho, valued at about £1.1 billion in March 2025. Theatreland has about 40 theatres, many of them Victorian or Edwardian, ranging from 444 to 2,286 seats. North of Oxford Street, the Westminster side of Fitzrovia holds advertising, media and fashion wholesale businesses around Great Portland Street and the BT Tower.

CCTV Installation in the West End

Theft is the dominant crime in W1: police.uk records for the West End neighbourhood show roughly 8,800 thefts from the person and about 4,500 shoplifting offences in the year to July 2026. For stores on Oxford Street, Regent Street and Bond Street we position cameras to identify faces at entrances, tills and high-value displays, and to cover stockrooms and service yards.

We set retention, time-stamping and export so evidence reaches the Met or a business crime partnership quickly and in a usable format.

Access Control by IDS Global

Access Control in the West End

Mayfair townhouse offices, Fitzrovia studios and multi-let Soho buildings can share one street door between a ground-floor business and several upper-floor tenants. We install card, fob and mobile credential systems that keep each tenancy separate while the common entrance and stairs stay usable for escape.

Hotels, galleries and auction rooms need tighter control of back-of-house routes and stores, with audit trails for staff and contractors. We link controlled doors to the fire alarm so they release on activation.

Fire Risk Assessments by IDS Global

Fire Risk Assessments in the West End

A Soho building with a basement bar, a ground-floor restaurant and offices above presents three different risk profiles sharing one staircase. Our fire risk assessments under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 cover escape routes, compartmentation between uses, late-night occupancy and kitchen extract, and rank the actions by risk.

For theatres, hotels and large venues we review evacuation arrangements alongside the procedures Martyn's Law will require, so the plans agree with each other.

Fire Alarm Systems by IDS Global

Fire Alarm Installation in the West End

Period buildings in Mayfair and Soho need detection that works without spoiling cornices, panelling or shopfronts. We design BS 5839 addressable and wireless systems, plan cable routes through existing voids, and agree device positions early where listed building consent may be involved. In mixed-use blocks, zoning keeps a kitchen alarm from needlessly clearing the offices above.

Recorded crime in the West End neighbourhood

We counted police.uk street-level records inside the boundary of the Metropolitan Police West End neighbourhood, which covers Soho, Mayfair and the Westminster part of Fitzrovia, for August 2025 to July 2026. Figures are approximate. The area logged about 29,200 crimes, peaking at around 3,500 in December 2025. The largest categories were theft from the person (8,781), other theft (6,144) and shoplifting (4,486), followed by 1,119 robberies, 579 vehicle crimes and 553 burglaries. In February 2026 New West End Company reported ram-raid incidents on Bond Street and in Mayfair, and in May it announced a £23 million, five-year package for local security operations.

Oxford Street under the Mayor's development corporation

The Oxford Street Development Corporation was established on 1 January 2026 and became the local planning authority on 10 August 2026, taking over from Westminster and Camden councils under the Oxford Street Development Corporation (Functions) Order 2026. Its area runs along Oxford Street from Orchard Street to Great Portland Street, the section the Mayor confirmed on 4 March 2026 will become traffic-free. Retailers planning external cameras, signage-mounted equipment or shopfront alterations on that stretch should now expect to deal with the corporation rather than the council.

Westminster licensing and Martyn's Law

Westminster's full council approved a revised Statement of Licensing Policy on 16 September 2026, taking effect on 1 October. It shrinks the West End cumulative impact zone, removing significant parts of Mayfair and the area north of Oxford Street, keeps the definition of vertical drinking, and adds provisions on Martyn's Law. That Act, the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, is expected in force in spring 2027. Venues for 200 to 799 people need evacuation, invacuation, lockdown and communication procedures; those for 800 or more must also put protective measures in place and document them for the Security Industry Authority.

Conservation areas and Soho fire station

Westminster has 56 conservation areas, and those covering this district include Mayfair, Soho, Regent Street and Stratford Place. Planning permission is needed for some alterations that would not need it elsewhere, and some areas carry Article 4 Directions, so external alarm sounders, cameras and gate equipment should be planned with the facade in mind. London Fire Brigade's Soho station stands at 126 Shaftesbury Avenue, in the middle of Theatreland, and is one of two stations in the borough alongside Paddington.

Frequently asked questions

Does Martyn's Law mean our West End theatre or venue must install CCTV?

The Act is expected to come into force in spring 2027, and the Home Office factsheet names monitoring of premises as an example of a protective measure for enhanced tier sites of 800 or more. CCTV is one of the most practical ways to meet that. We can review your existing coverage alongside your evacuation and lockdown procedures and recommend where cameras will make the biggest difference.

Who approves external cameras on an Oxford Street shopfront now?

Between Orchard Street and Great Portland Street, planning decisions passed to the Oxford Street Development Corporation on 10 August 2026. Elsewhere in W1, Westminster City Council remains the planning authority, and conservation area controls apply across Mayfair, Soho and Regent Street. We agree camera positions and cable routes before work starts so any consent can be sought first.

Is our Mayfair bar still inside the cumulative impact zone?

Possibly not. Westminster's revised licensing policy, due to take effect on 1 October 2026, removes significant parts of Mayfair and the area north of Oxford Street from the West End zone. Check the council's 2026 cumulative impact assessment map for your address. If your premises licence carries CCTV or security conditions, we can install or upgrade a system to match them.

How can a small Soho business deal with repeat shoplifting and pickpocketing?

Police.uk records show about 4,500 shoplifting offences and nearly 8,800 thefts from the person in the West End neighbourhood over the year to July 2026. Clear facial images at the door, tidy till layouts and fast footage export make reports easier to act on.

Can IDS Global work in a listed Mayfair townhouse office without damaging it?

Yes, with planning. We survey first, use wireless detection where cabling would cut into historic fabric, and route wiring through existing voids and service runs. Device positions and any external equipment are agreed with you before installation, so you can seek listed building consent from Westminster where needed.
