Fire alarms, CCTV, access control and fire risk assessments for offices, shops, venues and rented property across Hammersmith W6, from the Broadway to Ravenscourt Park.
We travel in from Hayes on the M4 and then the A4 Great West Road, which crosses into Hammersmith over the flyover. IDS Global was established in 2011, works from 27-37 Station Road, Hayes, and is a member of both the IFSM and the FPA.
Hammersmith is built around the Broadway, where the A4 meets several local roads and a shopping centre, bus station, Underground station and office complex share one site. According to Hammersmith BID, Disney, Hearst Networks and UKTV all run major headquarters here. East of the centre, beside the flyover, stands The Ark, an office building designed by Ralph Erskine and completed in 1992. King Street runs about 750 metres west from the Broadway and holds the Livat shopping centre (formerly Kings Mall), the town hall and a long row of shops, cafes and bars.
Entertainment venues shape the evening economy. The Eventim Apollo opened in 1932 as the Gaumont Palace, is Grade II* listed and holds around 5,000 people when the stalls are set for standing. The Lyric reopened in 1979 off King Street with its 1895 Frank Matcham auditorium rebuilt inside a modern shell. Town centre businesses fund Hammersmith BID, which runs a Business Crime Reduction Partnership, ShopWatch, PubWatch and BuildingWatch groups; in October 2025, 92% of voting businesses backed a fifth term running from April 2026.
Where an office building near the Broadway is shared by several tenants, with shops or restaurants at street level, we design BS 5839 addressable systems whose zones and cause and effect follow that mix, so staff can see quickly where an alarm started.
In converted houses and flats we fit the detection and emergency lighting that H&F licensing standards expect, and supply test certificates your licence application can rely on.
Fire alarm installationHammersmith and Fulham licenses shared homes with as few as three occupants from two households, and the council's licensing guidance states that owners must have a fire risk assessment carried out by a competent person. We assess HMOs, converted blocks and the common parts of mixed-use buildings above King Street shops, checking escape routes, compartmentation, detection and fire doors.
For offices, venues and restaurants we assess against the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and set out an action plan ranked by risk.
Fire risk assessmentsShoplifting is the most frequently recorded theft around the Broadway, and Ravenscourt sees more vehicle crime than neighbouring Grove. We position cameras over tills, entrances, loading bays and car parks, and export footage in a format the police can use.
Private systems work alongside the council's public space network and the BID's crime reduction schemes rather than replacing them: they cover the inside of your premises and the areas you control.
CCTV installationHeadquarters offices and multi-let buildings near the Broadway need to manage staff, visitors and contractors across several floors. We install card, fob and mobile credential systems, door entry for reception and goods entrances, and integrate them with fire alarm release so that controlled doors open on activation.
For flats and licensed HMOs we fit door entry that secures the communal entrance without slowing escape.
Access controlThe council runs three schemes. Mandatory licences cover homes with five or more people from two or more households. The borough-wide additional scheme, first introduced on 5 June 2017, covers three or four people from two or more households, including converted and purpose-built flats. Selective licensing applies to every rented house or flat on 24 named streets, among them King Street, Dalling Road, Goldhawk Road, Shepherd's Bush Road and Talgarth Road. The additional and selective schemes were renewed by Cabinet on 6 December 2021 and run for five years from 5 June 2022, to 4 June 2027. Landlords should check the council's website for the arrangements that follow.
Hammersmith and Fulham has 44 conservation areas covering about half of the borough. Those nearest the town centre include Hammersmith Broadway, Hammersmith Odeon, Hammersmith Town Hall (renamed from King Street (East) in November 2018), St Peter's Square and The Mall. In Ravenscourt and Starch Green, the former Royal Masonic Hospital has been upgraded to Grade II*. Conservation area status brings extra controls on development and advertisements, so external detectors, sounders, cameras and gate equipment need careful positioning.
Hammersmith fire station is at 190-192 Shepherd's Bush Road, W6, one of two London Fire Brigade stations in the borough. The Brigade reports that automatic fire alarms made up 34% of the incidents it attended in 2025, about 47,500 calls, and fewer than 1% of non-residential alarm calls turned out to be fires. It therefore waits for a confirmed fire before sending crews to most workplaces between 7am and 8.30pm. Listed buildings, hotels, HMOs and flats are among the exempt categories.
We counted police.uk street-level records for August 2025 to July 2026 within three Metropolitan Police neighbourhood boundaries, so figures are approximate. Hammersmith Broadway logged around 445 shoplifting offences, 139 thefts from the person, 80 vehicle crimes and 73 burglaries. Ravenscourt recorded about 212 shoplifting offences and 132 vehicle crimes, and Grove around 74 vehicle crimes and 38 burglaries. In September 2025 the council said its CCTV programme had grown the public network to more than 2,500 cameras, watched from a 24/7 control room, and that it contributed to 754 Met arrests in 2024.
Almost certainly. King Street is one of the 24 selective licensing streets, so a flat let to a single household needs a selective licence, and a flat shared by three or four people from separate households falls under the borough-wide additional scheme. Both schemes run to 4 June 2027. We can carry out the fire risk assessment and supply the alarm and emergency lighting certificates the council expects.
Not on the automatic signal alone. Between 7am and 8.30pm the London Fire Brigade needs a 999 call confirming a fire before it sends crews to most workplaces, and it reviews daytime commercial alarm calls before responding. Fire wardens should check the panel and call 999 if there is any sign of fire; night-time signals still get a response.
Grade I, Grade II and Grade II* listed heritage buildings are on the London Fire Brigade exemption list, so crews still respond to automatic alarms at any hour. The Brigade asks responsible persons in exempt buildings to make sure whoever rings 999 knows about the exemption and mentions it. The Eventim Apollo, for example, is Grade II* listed.
Usually, but take care. Conservation areas carry extra controls over development and advertisements, and some buildings nearby are listed. We choose compact cameras, run cabling internally where we can and agree fixing points before any work starts. For listed buildings, check with the council's Urban Design and Conservation Team first.
Not as standard. The council's network of more than 2,500 cameras covers streets and public spaces and is monitored from its own 24/7 control room. Your own system covers your premises and gives you footage you control, which you can share with police when needed.
