South of the village, the local plan has long grouped Court Lane, Thorney Business Park and the Ridgeway Trading Estate as the South of Iver Opportunity Area, with further key employment sites on Thorney Mill Road. The Ridgeway site covers about 7 hectares and 17 occupiers, including transport and logistics firms, and an October 2025 application proposes replacing it with a 330,000 sq ft data centre. Most open land in the parish is Metropolitan Green Belt within the Colne Valley regional park, and commercial premises on the rural fringe include yards and farm business parks such as Duttons Farm near Iver Heath.

Buckinghamshire alarm calls: no attendance without a confirmed fire

Since 8 July 2024, Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has not attended automatic fire alarms at non-domestic medium and low risk premises unless a 999 call or visible signs confirm a fire. The policy applies 24 hours a day, not only in office hours. Thames Valley Fire Control Service challenges every non-domestic alarm call. Homes with sleeping occupants, sheltered housing, hospitals, care homes and hospices are exempt, as are sites the service knows to be high risk for other reasons.

The service advises staff to check the panel, look, listen and smell for fire, feel doors before opening them, and tell the call handler "this is a confirmed fire call". None of its 17 listed stations is in the Ivers.

Iver village conservation area

Iver village was designated a conservation area in 1982. It covers the medieval centre around Swan Road, the eastern end of the High Street and Thorney Lane North, and holds about 11 listed entries, including St Peter's Church (Grade I), Bridgefoot House (Grade II*) and the 16th century Swan Inn (Grade II). The draft 2016 appraisal names traffic, including HGVs, as the main harm to its character, and asks that CCTV mountings and posts be discussed with conservation staff first.

Buckinghamshire Council lists Iver as a conservation area; Iver Heath and Richings Park are not. On listed buildings we agree camera and sounder positions before drilling.

Recorded crime in Iver and the surrounding neighbourhood

We counted street-level police.uk records for August 2025 to July 2026. Within one mile of Iver village centre there were approximately 458 crimes, including 27 vehicle crimes, 26 shoplifting offences and 9 burglaries. The wider Iver, Stoke Poges and Wexham neighbourhood, measured on a simplified boundary, recorded about 1,319, with 128 vehicle crimes, 67 burglaries and 130 criminal damage and arson offences.

Burglary is low in the village itself, while vehicle crime and damage across the wider rural area point to yard and perimeter cameras rather than shopfront coverage.

Data centres replacing industrial sites

Several employment sites are moving towards data centres. The Ivers Neighbourhood Plan supports that use at Thorney Business Park on condition it creates no HGV movements beyond construction. The Ridgeway proposal includes a 24m building, 2.4m security fencing and 27 emergency generators, and Pinewood has a resolution to grant for its own scheme. Neighbouring units that stay in industrial use face years of contractor traffic, a good moment to review perimeter security.
