IDS Global has traded since 2011 and is a member of the IFSM and the FPA.

Businesses and buildings in Richmond & Twickenham

Richmond is classed as a major centre in the London Plan, with roughly 50,000 square metres of retail space concentrated on George Street, The Quadrant and Hill Street. The town is home to the UK or European head offices of eBay and Lindt. Around the retail core sit Quinlan Terry's neo-Georgian Richmond Riverside, restored between 1984 and 1987, the grade II* Frank Matcham theatre on the Green, and a run of historic pubs, several of them grade II listed. Kew adds a village green lined with period houses, shops and former inns, next to the Royal Botanic Gardens.

Twickenham's centre carries fewer chain stores than its neighbours and more cafes, restaurants, banks and estate agents. St Mary's University and Richmond upon Thames College are both here, and the council runs the borough from York House on the riverside. Twickenham Stadium on Whitton Road holds 82,000 for rugby and up to 55,000 for concerts, and its South Stand includes a Marriott hotel. On the waterfront, Kier is building the council's Twickenham Riverside scheme: 45 homes across two buildings plus shops, a cafe, office space and an event space on the river, with completion scheduled for winter 2027.

Fire Risk Assessments by IDS Global

Fire Risk Assessments in Richmond & Twickenham

The historic centres here include listed pubs, period shops with rooms above and eighteenth-century riverside buildings. Where a building like this has a single staircase, or doors replaced over the years with no record of their fire rating, the assessment has to deal with it directly.

Our assessors walk every floor, test escape routes and compartments as built, and leave the responsible person a prioritised written action plan, framed for listed buildings so remedial work can be agreed with the council first.

Fire Alarm Systems by IDS Global

Fire Alarm Installation in Richmond & Twickenham

Hotels, guest houses, schools and student rooms are on the London Fire Brigade list of premises that still receive an attendance to automatic alarms at any hour, so a detector that trips from shower steam or toast sends crews out every time. We specify detection room by room, with multi-sensor heads where heat or dust would fool a smoke detector.

In period interiors we route cables around cornices and panelling.

CCTV Systems by IDS Global

CCTV Installation in Richmond & Twickenham

Police.uk figures for August 2025 to July 2026 show approximately 250 shoplifting offences in the South Richmond neighbourhood and about 165 in Twickenham Riverside. Retailers need clear face-height views of doorways and tills.

On listed or conservation-area frontages we keep cameras small, run cabling inside where possible, and agree positions before drilling.

Intruder Alarms by IDS Global

Intruder Alarm Installation in Richmond & Twickenham

Offices, clinics and studios that stand empty overnight need a monitored alarm. Police.uk data for the same twelve months records roughly 74 burglaries in South Richmond and 65 in Kew.

We fit graded intruder alarms with monitored signalling, set up part-arm zones for premises with living accommodation, and site external bell boxes with conservation-area frontages in mind.

Eighty-five conservation areas, Kew Green and the World Heritage Site

Richmond upon Thames Council lists 85 conservation areas, ranging from town centres such as Richmond to open spaces including Richmond Park and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. The council's FAQ notes that even a satellite dish needs consent there on an elevation facing a highway.

Kew Gardens was inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 2003, covering 132 hectares with a 350 hectare buffer zone, and holds four grade I and 36 grade II listed structures. Across the road, the Kew Green conservation area includes the grade II* St Anne's Church of 1714 and Decimus Burton's grade II* Elizabeth Gate. We agree positions for cameras, detectors and external sounders with owners before work starts, and advise checking consent where fixings touch listed fabric.

HMO licensing in Richmond upon Thames

The council's licensing pages, updated in June and July 2026, describe the national mandatory scheme only: a licence is needed where five or more people from two or more households share facilities in a house or self-contained flat. Running an HMO that needs a licence without one can lead to a financial penalty or prosecution, and tenants may seek up to 12 months' rent back. Landlords of smaller shared houses should check the council's current guidance before letting.

Crime across Richmond, Kew, Twickenham and Whitton

We counted police.uk street-level crimes inside each Metropolitan Police neighbourhood boundary for August 2025 to July 2026, using a simplified boundary, so treat the figures as approximate. South Richmond recorded about 1,666 crimes, including 250 shoplifting offences and 149 vehicle crimes. Twickenham Riverside recorded about 1,195, with 165 shoplifting offences and 107 public order offences. Kew recorded about 813, where vehicle crime was the largest acquisitive category at 143 offences. Whitton recorded about 641, including 68 vehicle crimes and 54 shoplifting offences.

Richmond and Twickenham fire stations and alarm response

The London Fire Brigade covers the borough from Richmond fire station at 323 Lower Richmond Road, TW9 4PN, and Twickenham fire station at 30 South Road, TW2 5NT, and publishes a Borough Risk Management Plan for 2026/27. For hotels, guest accommodation, schools and HMOs, the Brigade expects staff to know that their premises remain on its attendance list and to say so when calling 999. We cover this in fire risk assessment actions.

Frequently asked questions

Will my Richmond hotel or guest house still get a fire engine to an automatic alarm?

Yes. Hotels, hostels and guest accommodation are on the London Fire Brigade list of premises it attends at any time of day, as are HMOs, schools and student accommodation. Staff should also be ready to tell the 999 operator the premises type when reporting an alarm.

Do I need permission to put CCTV on a building near Kew Green or Richmond Green?

Possibly. Both greens sit in conservation areas and many surrounding buildings are listed, so fixings to the outside of a listed building may need consent. Richmond Council advises checking the relevant conservation area appraisal or using its pre-application service.

Is shoplifting in Twickenham high enough to justify CCTV?

Police.uk data for August 2025 to July 2026 records approximately 165 shoplifting offences in the Twickenham Riverside neighbourhood, and about 250 in South Richmond. For a shop or bar, cameras covering the entrance, tills and stockroom give staff and police usable evidence. We can survey the unit and recommend camera numbers before you commit to anything.

Can IDS Global work on premises close to Twickenham Stadium on match days?

Yes, but we plan around the fixture calendar. The stadium holds 82,000 for rugby and up to 55,000 for concerts, and it sits at the Whitton Road Roundabout on the A316, so event crowds and traffic affect nearby premises. We schedule surveys and installations for non-event days wherever the client can.
