Fire Risk Assessments by IDS Global

Fire Safety & Security Services in Ruislip

Fire risk assessments, fire alarm systems, CCTV and access control for retailers, landlords, care providers and industrial occupiers across Ruislip, Ruislip Manor, South Ruislip and Ruislip Gardens.

HA4 has two distinct trading areas. In the north, a listed village core and a 1920s and 1930s High Street sit inside one of Hillingdon's first conservation areas. In the south, industrial units and a retail park cluster around Victoria Road and Stonefield Way, near the Polish War Memorial roundabout where the A4180 West End Road leaves the A40.

IDS Global has traded since 2011 from one office at 27-37 Station Road, Hayes, and is a member of the IFSM and the FPA.

Businesses and buildings in Ruislip

Hillingdon's Local Plan names Ruislip as one of the borough's five district centres, with Ruislip Manor a minor centre and South Ruislip a local centre. The council's conservation appraisal describes two and three storey shopping parades on the southern High Street, with estate agents, solicitors and specialist shops at the older northern end, and purpose built apartments over many of the shops. Smaller parades trade on Field End Road, Station Approach and Victoria Road in South Ruislip and on West End Road at Ruislip Gardens.

Industry is concentrated in South Ruislip. The Local Plan lists the Victoria Road and Stonefield Way Industrial Business Area as one of only three Preferred Industrial Locations in Hillingdon, reserved for light and general industry, storage and distribution. One unit marketed on Stonefield Way is a steel portal frame building with first-floor offices. RAF Northolt is also in South Ruislip. Care homes include Ruislip Nursing Home on West End Road and Poplars Care Home on Ickenham Road, both supporting people living with dementia, and Bishop Ramsey School on Hume Way teaches 1,218 pupils aged 11 to 18.

Fire Risk Assessments in Ruislip

Hillingdon's appraisal of the village centre records flues, air extraction units, external fire escapes and improvised storage behind many High Street shops. Where flats sit above a shop, the rear route can be the only way out for residents, and a bin store or stack of stock against the stair can block it.

We assess the shop, the upper floors and the rear escape as one building, with a prioritised action plan covering compartmentation, fire doors, detection and signage.

Fire Alarm Systems by IDS Global

Fire Alarm Installation in Ruislip

In December 2024 fire destroyed the roof of a two-storey maisonette on West End Road and partly damaged the roof next door. All seven people inside got out before crews arrived.

We design and install BS 5839 systems for mixed-use parades, care homes and school buildings. For homes caring for people with dementia, we plan zoning, sounders and visual alarms so staff can find the source quickly and move residents who cannot respond on their own.

CCTV Systems by IDS Global

CCTV Installation in Ruislip

Of the three HA4 neighbourhoods, South Ruislip records the most shoplifting and vehicle crime. Police.uk records for August 2025 to July 2026 show about 291 shoplifting offences and 251 vehicle crimes inside the South Ruislip neighbourhood boundary, against about 137 and 92 in the Ruislip neighbourhood.

For retail units, warehouses and yards we cover entrances, tills, loading bays and parking with cameras chosen for the distance and lighting on site, and set up recording that staff can export for the police.

Access Control by IDS Global

Access Control in Ruislip

Stonefield Way units can combine a warehouse floor with offices above, so staff, drivers and visitors share one building. Key fobs or cards on the office door, goods entrance and yard gate let a manager decide who reaches each part, and a lost fob can be cancelled without changing locks.

Ruislip Village conservation area and the High Street

Ruislip Village became a conservation area in 1969, one of the first in Hillingdon, and in January 2009 the council extended it to take in the whole High Street and the later suburbs to the west and south. The 2010 appraisal counts 23 statutorily listed buildings, 26 locally listed buildings and a scheduled motte and bailey.

The appraisal singles out modern shopfronts and signage of the wrong size, position or illumination as the main harm to the High Street. Cameras, bell boxes and cable runs on a shop frontage fall under the same scrutiny, so we agree positions before starting and keep external equipment compact.

Manor Farm, Ruislip Woods and public venues

Every building at Manor Farm is statutorily listed, including a 13th century aisled oak barn that the council considers one of the earliest surviving timber framed buildings in Greater London, and a 16th century barn converted into the public library in 1937. Hillingdon hires out the Great Barn for weddings, concerts, markets and exhibitions of up to 200 people, as well as the Winston Churchill Theatre.

Venues like these need a fire risk assessment that reflects the event capacity. North of the village, Ruislip Woods National Nature Reserve, which contains the Lido, bans barbecues and fires throughout.

Recorded crime across Ruislip, Ruislip Manor and South Ruislip

We counted police.uk street-level crimes inside each Metropolitan Police neighbourhood boundary for August 2025 to July 2026. Police.uk anonymises locations, so the figures are approximate. South Ruislip recorded about 1,596 crimes, including 291 shoplifting, 251 vehicle crimes and 61 burglaries. Ruislip recorded about 1,253, including 137 shoplifting, 92 vehicle crimes, 74 burglaries and 39 robberies. Ruislip Manor recorded about 543, with 88 vehicle crimes and 19 burglaries. The pattern favours CCTV on retail and industrial sites in the south.

Ruislip fire station and daytime alarm calls

London Fire Brigade's Ruislip station is on Bury Street, HA4, one of four in Hillingdon. When fire damaged a walkway beside a Kingsend supermarket in August 2024, eight engines and around 60 firefighters from Ruislip, Hillingdon and Harrow attended, and a 32 metre turntable ladder was used as a water tower.

Between 7am and 8.30pm the Brigade does not attend automatic alarms from most shops, offices and warehouses unless a fire is confirmed by a 999 call. Care homes, schools, flats, HMOs and listed buildings are still attended.

Frequently asked questions

Does a shared house in Ruislip need an HMO licence?

Very likely. Hillingdon now runs additional licensing across the whole borough for shared homes with fewer than five residents from two or more households, alongside mandatory licensing for larger HMOs. The council's 2026 to 2027 fee is £1,401 for an additional licence and £1,656 for a mandatory one. We can assess the house and install or upgrade alarms and fire doors before the council inspects.

Will the fire brigade come if the alarm goes off at our South Ruislip warehouse during the day?

Not unless someone confirms a fire. Industrial units and offices are outside London Fire Brigade's exempt list, so between 7am and 8.30pm crews only attend when a 999 call reports an actual fire. At night every automatic alarm gets a response. Your procedure should name who checks the alarm and who calls 999, and we can train staff and fire marshals to follow it.

Can you fit CCTV to a listed building on Ruislip High Street?

Yes, with care. The northern end of the High Street includes Grade II and Grade II* timber framed buildings from the 16th and 17th centuries, and the conservation appraisal is critical of intrusive additions to shop frontages. We survey first, favour compact housings and internal cable routes, and recommend you check with Hillingdon Council before anything is fixed to a listed facade.

We run a care home in Ruislip. What should our fire alarm do differently?

Care homes remain on the Brigade's list of premises it attends at any hour, so every false alarm sends crews. Both Ruislip Nursing Home and Poplars Care Home support people living with dementia. We design zoned systems with clear panel information, choose detectors that suit kitchens and bathrooms, and plan evacuation around residents who need help to move.
