Fire Safety Compliance & Maintenance in Sandhurst

Fire risk assessments, fire alarm servicing, fire door inspections and security system maintenance for businesses, landlords, care providers and community venues in Sandhurst, Owlsmoor and College Town.

Sandhurst grew from four villages into one town of about 8,000 homes, with five designated centres, the Meadows superstores and an employment area off Swan Lane.

IDS Global has traded since 2011 from 27-37 Station Road, Hayes, and is a member of the IFSM and the FPA. We reach GU47 from Hayes on the M25 and M3, leaving at junction 4.

Businesses and buildings in Sandhurst

Sandhurst Town Council's Neighbourhood Plan background paper counts one district centre, Central Sandhurst, and four local centres. The paper describes these parades as generally of 1960s and early 1970s design. The Meadows holds Tesco and Marks and Spencer superstores that opened in the 1990s, alongside a Next store.

Business premises are concentrated off Swan Lane. Vulcan Way is mainly motor trade units plus a Royal Mail delivery office, and many units park vehicles on their own forecourts. Lakeside Business Park, also reached from Swan Lane, has office and light industrial units. The same paper lists six retirement schemes with 210 flats between them, two nursing homes and five primary schools.

Fire Risk Assessments in Sandhurst

The town's community venues show why each building needs its own assessment. The Neighbourhood Plan gives Sandhurst Community Hall on Yorktown Road room for 150 seated or 200 standing, the Pastoral Centre on Lower Church Road up to 150, Owlsmoor Community Centre on Yeovil Road about 100 and Little Sandhurst Community Hall, opened in 2023, 40. Memorial Park adds a sports club and a cafe.

We assess each building for the way it is used: how many people are inside, which exits they would take and who is responsible when a room is hired out. Every assessment ends in a written action plan ranked by priority.

Fire Alarm Servicing in Sandhurst

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service says 99% of the automatic fire alarm calls it receives are false. Since 20 September 2024 it has stopped sending engines automatically to shops, offices, leisure centres, sports grounds, libraries and health centres, while schools, higher-risk buildings and premises where people sleep, such as care homes and flats, still get an automatic response.

In Sandhurst that separates the Meadows stores from Fourways, Haldane House, the retirement schemes and the schools. The Service lists dust in detectors, cooking fumes, steam and faulty equipment among causes of unwanted signals. We test and clean detectors, check panels and sounders and log each visit.

Fire Door Inspections in Sandhurst

Six retirement schemes, Wyatt Court, McKernan Court, Swan House, Fleur de Lis, Warner Court and Broadway House, hold more than 200 flats, each with its own entrance door. Fourways and Haldane House are both registered for dementia care.

We inspect leaf, frame, seals, closers, hinges and gaps door by door, photograph each defect and list repairs in priority order, so a manager can deal with the worst doors first.

CCTV and Intruder Alarm Maintenance in Sandhurst

Police.uk data for the Sandhurst neighbourhood records 25 shoplifting offences, 34 vehicle crimes and 14 burglaries in the twelve months to July 2026. Many Vulcan Way units have parking on their forecourts, so cameras there watch open ground as well as doors.

A maintenance visit checks that each camera still sees what it should, that the recorder keeps footage for the period you expect, and that alarm sensors and signalling work as designed. Faults go into an itemised report.

Low bridges, Yorktown Road and the Neighbourhood Plan

The Neighbourhood Plan background paper says a railway bridge with 13ft 9in of headroom carries the A321 through the town and divides it, and that a second low bridge on Swan Lane limits large vehicles reaching Vulcan Way.

Bracknell Forest Council consulted for six weeks on the submitted plan, closing on 1 July 2026. The pre-submission version records that the Local Plan allocated no large or medium housing sites inside the town boundary. We plan visits around each site's access.

Royal Military Academy, listed buildings and pubs

The Royal Military Academy sits beside College Town, its grounds straddling Berkshire and Surrey, with about 200 officer cadets in each intake. The town council's paper lists Old College at the academy and the Church of St Michael on Lower Church Road as Grade II* listed. The church dates from 1853.

The locally listed buildings include three pubs, the Bird in Hand, the Wellington Arms and the White Swan, and the Rose and Crown is an Asset of Community Value. On listed or locally listed buildings we agree equipment positions with the owner and check with the council before anything is fixed to the structure.

Recorded crime in the Sandhurst neighbourhood

We counted police.uk street-level records for August 2025 to July 2026 inside the boundary of the Thames Valley Police neighbourhood named Sandhurst. Police.uk anonymises locations, so the figures are approximate. They total about 745 records: 289 violent crime, 143 anti-social behaviour, 71 criminal damage and arson, 53 other theft, 34 vehicle crime, 25 shoplifting and 14 burglary.

Crowthorne fire station and alarm signals

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service runs an on-call station at 226 High Street, Crowthorne, RG45 7AP, in the neighbouring town. It opened in 1959, and its page says many callouts today are undergrowth fires in the woodland around it.

On alarm signals, the Service says alarm receiving centres call the building to find the cause before contacting it, and it asks occupiers to warn their centre before any system test so that engines are not sent unnecessarily.

Frequently asked questions

Will fire engines attend if the alarm goes off at our Sandhurst shop or office?

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service lists shops and offices among the premises that have not received an automatic engine response to alarm signals since 20 September 2024. Its alarm receiving centres call the building first, and a 999 call or confirmed fire always gets a response. Ask your monitoring provider how your premises are treated, and keep the system serviced so signals are genuine.

Do care homes and retirement flats in Sandhurst get a different alarm response?

The Service's policy keeps an automatic response for premises where people sleep, including care homes and flats, and for schools. Fourways and Haldane House are care homes, and the town has six retirement schemes. We tell the alarm receiving centre before any test.

Can you assess or service alarms in a listed building or pub in Sandhurst?

Yes. An assessment or door inspection does not alter the building, and we word recommendations with the fabric in mind. Old College and the Church of St Michael are Grade II* listed, and the Wellington Arms, White Swan and Bird in Hand are locally listed. Before anything is fixed to a protected building, we advise checking with the council.

Do you maintain CCTV and alarms at units on Vulcan Way and Lakeside Business Park?

Yes. We maintain CCTV, intruder alarms and access control at industrial and office units, and can service the fire alarm on the same visit. Because Swan Lane has a low railway bridge, we agree vehicle access with you beforehand.

Do you cover Owlsmoor, College Town and Little Sandhurst as well as central Sandhurst?

Yes. We cover all of GU47, including Owlsmoor, College Town, Little Sandhurst, Mill Parade and the Meadows, from our Hayes head office. Nearby Yateley and Bagshot have their own pages on this site, and we can service premises on either side of the River Blackwater, which forms Sandhurst's southern boundary.
